The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive education and female empowerment through its latest admissions outreach programme, held at Presbyterian Girls’ Senior High School, Kumasi.
Themed “Empowering Young Women: Discovering Talents, Building Futures,” the event was conducted under the leadership of the school’s Headmistress, Mrs. Juliana Anim-Yeboah.

As part of the programme, Mr. Thomas Baakyiirsie, a Junior Assistant Registrar at the KNUST Admissions Office, delivered a comprehensive presentation demystifying the university’s admissions process. He addressed key elements such as entry requirements, the importance of correct WASSCE subject combinations, and common errors applicants should avoid, including the repetition of programme choices and incorrect index numbers.
Mr. Baakyiirsie also shared the latest cut-off points for various undergraduate programmes and encouraged students, particularly those interested in STEM-related fields, to take advantage of KNUST’s initiatives aimed at bridging the gender gap in science and technology disciplines.
Students actively engaged during the session, gaining valuable insights into aligning their academic strengths with suitable university programmes. The interactive session concluded with a Q&A segment, during which students sought clarity on topics such as scholarship opportunities, campus life, and tips for strengthening their applications.
Mr. Baakyiirsie urged the students to take full ownership of their application journey, emphasizing KNUST’s commitment to fairness and transparency throughout the admissions process.
Mrs. Anim-Yeboah commended KNUST for its ongoing outreach efforts and the positive influence such engagements have on shaping the academic ambitions of young women.
The session concluded on a high note, with many students expressing renewed enthusiasm about applying to KNUST and pursuing careers aligned with their passions and abilities.
